E-mail: quessadavet@gmail.com Gastrointestinal foreign bodies are not common in cat due to selective alimentary habits. However, when it occurs, are in the most, linear foreign bodies, which can to cause severe clinic signs and until death of the animal. Foreign bodies lodged in the tongue are rare in all species. This paper reports a rare case of foreign body in the tongue of a cat. The animal was attended in a teaching hospital with nausea and anorexia. Due to intense salivation, a radiographic examination of the skull was performed and revealed a radiopaque foreign body embedded in the tongue. The cat was referred to surgical procedure and removal of the object (a needle). For needle withdrawal an incision on anterior surface of the tongue was performed, and allowed easy removal of the needle. After the surgery, the animal stayed hospitalized, time for administration of the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory Two days after the surgery the animal was discharged and had fully recovered. No similar cases were found about feline.
