According to literature, affects large breed’s dogs and requires emergency treatment. Several clinical signs are associated with splenic torsion. Laboratory and also radiographic signs are nonspecific and inconclusive methods of diagnosis of splenic torsion. The ultrasound has been reported as an important diagnostic tool for this disease, showing a severe splenomegaly, changes in the splenic parenchyma, characterized by a hypoechogenic lacy pattern, moreover, detecting the absence of blood flow in the spleen by Doppler examination. Other findings related to torsion of the spleen are the presence of thrombus within the splenic veins, peritonitis and peritoneal effusion. Usually the definitive diagnosis is made by exploratory laparotomy which is normally preceded by a splenectomy as a treatment. When it is done quickly, the prognosis is good. The present study was related a review about the subject, and also reported two cases that ultrasonography was a diagnostic tool of great value in detecting this disease, and that Pit Bull as a breed predisposed, due to his energetic behavior.</p> ER -
