E-mail: joicevet@yahoo.com.br The Canine babesiosis is a disease caused by hemoparasite protozoa of the genus Babesia spp., distributed worldwide, and transmitted by Ixodidae ticks. This study aimed to determine the clinical and hematological aspects in dogs from Seropédica, RJ, with babesiosis diagnosed by real time PCR and RFLP. Were collected blood samples of 311 dogs. The diagnosis revealed the frequency of 11.90% (n=37/311) and the subspecies was identified as Babesia canis vogeli. The clinical parameters showed no association in the infection. As for hematological parameters were observed normocytic normochromic anemia, hemoglobinemia and thrombocytopenia (P&lt;0.05), being signs common in babesiosis caused by B. c. vogeli. The results showed that B. c. vogeli affects dogs of this region with considerable frequency, and should be considered as an important pathogen, which is underdiagnosed, mainly due to complications in coinfections and for clinical signs common to other diseases.</p> ER -
