E-mail: danivetuff@hotmail.com Parasite ocurrence in captured dogs by zoonotic control center in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Espírito Santo State. In the period of May, 2009, 38 stray dogs of the Center for zoonotic control from the City of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim were evaluated to determine the occurrence of canine parasites. The total feces samples were evaluated and 75.2% of them were infected and 48% were positive for at list one gastrointestinal parasite. Species observed were Ancylostoma spp. in 38,2%, Toxocara canis in 21,1%, Dipylidium caninum in 11.3% Trichuris vulpis in 0.5%, and Taeniidae eggs in 0.5% of the dogs. From the evaluated dogs, 92,1% were infected by ectoparasites, being 31 (81,57%) by chewing lice Heterodoxus spiniger, 15 (39,47%) by Ctenocephalides felis felis and 20 (52.63%) by Riphicephalus sanguineus and Amblyomma cajennense ticks. This result lead to implantate control programs for parasites in this species and for reducing risks of environment contamination, and transmission to human population.
