The horses were submitted to two treadmill incremental tests, one before and other after the training period. Was evaluated the heart rate and plasma lactate concentration during the exercise. Athletic scores were estimated to evaluate the efficiency of training program. The adopted protocol was unable to induce adaptive physiological responses on cardiovascular and muscle metabolism, demonstrated by the maintenance of similar values of heart rate and plasma lactate concentrations during the tests, performed before and after the physical preparation period.
